The New Zealand Young Kennel Club (NZYKC) provides opportunities for young people to be active participants in canine activities and to act as a conduit to education, leadership and social interaction.
The NZ Young Kennel Club (NZYKC) is the youth arm of the New Zealand Kennel Club Inc.
Formed in 2005, it is a club for all youngsters aged 5 and up to 20 years old who have a passion for canine activities, whether they own or dog or not. Our goals are to promote, life skills such as, leadership, self confidence, sportsmanship, friendship and very importantly responsible dog ownership. NZYKC runs many competitions nationwide during the year for our members, covering all disciplines within the dog world from agility and obedience to breed showing.
The NZYKC has its own website, a quarterly newsletter and takes a monthly page in the “New Zealand Dog World”.
NZYKC runs a very successful annual camp, where we bring youngsters together from all locations, nationwide to enable development of our goals. Emphasis is put into participation within activities of all the canine disciplines, along with life skills, encouraging leadership, self confidence, sportsmanship, friendship and animal husbandry. At camp the youth are accompanied by their dog or are giving the opportunity to act as guardian to a dog for that duration. We also encourage participation in the running and structure of the NZYKC, two newly elected Young Members Representatives are due to take up appointment on the committee in September this year.
